'‘Bedouin woman is in a complex state of conflict.’
From anxious and suspicious family members, to clashing expectations of university and home, Bedouin women face conflict on many fronts during their studies.
In addition, many students have also spoken of their agonising internal conflict. The cognitive dissonance that results from trying to bridge two completely different cultures and sets of values cannot be over-estimated. With their fellow students and families each standing on opposing sides of the conflict, the young women are very often left to wrestle with these internal battles alone.
Here, the female gender symbol is presented as a decorated, oriental sword. As the weapon is fully integrated into the symbol, it honours the great inner strength and bravery of the women concerned as they fight for their right to live full lives in several spheres.
